Located on the corner of Crown and Keira Streets, and on the ground floor of the shopping centre (the former Max Brenner site), The Bavarian Wollongong accommodates 330 guests, including 100 seats outdoors.
The family-friendly restaurant is creating 45 full-time and casual positions and supporting the local economy by engaging around 50 professionals and tradespeople on the project.
Rockpool Dining Group Chief Executive Officer Thomas Pash said he was thrilled to be expanding the Group’s NSW footprint and bringing The Bavarian, and jobs, to Wollongong.
“Our Bavarian restaurants have a large and loyal following in NSW and we’re thrilled to be bringing our first daily deal-packed destination to Wollongong,” Mr Pash said.
“We’re targeting new recruits who live locally, know the area, the community and will have a good rapport with customers. The Bavarian has a strong culture of promoting employees who perform well and display leadership qualities, so there are excellent career development opportunities for the right candidates.”
Local residents and shoppers will experience a true taste of Bavarian hospitality, from cultural hints in the interior décor, to quintessential dishes and a range of international and local beers.
There is something for everyone on the menu, including The Bavarian’s legendary pork knuckle, crackling pork belly, a range of classic German and gourmet sausages, shared platters, and an assortment of schnitzels. Lighter bites include chicken wings, spicy squid and build-your-own salads.
The Bavarian Wollongong launches with two fantastic meat platters ($35 per person), each designed to share between two people. The pork platter features half a pork knuckle, smoked pork belly and crackling, Nurnberger pork sausage and soft bao buns. A BBQ platter comprises of meaty pork ribs, spiced pulled pork, smoked pork belly, corn on the cob, soft pretzel buns and is served with cabbage slaw and pickles. An unbeatable happy hour includes $5 beer, wine and spirits daily, from 4pm to 6pm.
Affordable dinner specials are a week-day winner: on Mondays it’s a chicken burger and drink of choice ($15), Tuesdays welcome a two-for-one deal on any regular schnitzel and every Wednesday guests can indulge in refillable All You Can Meat platters ($35 per person). A fantastic, $10 lunch menu is available from Monday to Thursday and every Sunday the focus is on families, with children under the age of 12 eating for free from the kids’ menu.
Complementing the big flavours are even bigger beers. The Bavarian’s 1-litre steins can quench a thirst and there are an impressive 20 beers on tap, including imported favourites Löwenbräu, Franziskaner, Stiegl, Spaten and Hofbräu.
The Bavarian is a casual, contemporary restaurant with design features that reflect its Bavarian heritage, including stone walls, alpine finishes and large, communal wood tables. Signature features include a custom-designed vintage beer barrel wall, bespoke signage and an impressive beer stein chandelier holding over 500 1-litre glass steins suspended above the bar.
The interior is a contemporary mix of light and dark timber, gold surfaces and stone feature walls. An abundance of green plants cascade from hanging baskets, adding a splash of colour and a fresh feel, while floor-to-ceiling, bi-fold glass windows flood the restaurant with natural light.
An expansive, open dining area features The Bavarian’s signature communal dining tables, and is an ideal space for hosting functions and events. Al-fresco seating runs parallel to the restaurant and accommodates up to 100 guests. Several large-screen TVs throughout the venue offer an exciting schedule of live sports games.
