NAIDOC Week at Novotel Wollongong
Jul 19, 2019
On Monday 8th July the hotel celebrated NAIDOC week with a very special visit from Marc Bennie and Natakka Alberts from the Diversity and Indigenous Programs Accor Head office team.
They had entrusted a very talented Indigenous team member Joshua Scott to take photos of their Aboriginal staff members to use in new marketing collateral.
They were also fortunate enough to have had a visit from Brenden Newton from AIME and Zac Bennett-Brook, Artist of Saltwater Dreamtime. They shared stories and insights with the hotels Indigenous employees over lunch and give some great interviews on why they see Accor Hotels as a great employer and its ability to provide career opportunities for Indigenous staff.
The hotel staff participated in a ‘Heart of House’ Activity, linking the themes of NAIDOC week - “Working together for a shared future” with Novotel. Speaking about the meaning of NAIDOC week and sharing a story from the Dreaming with the team about some local landmarks – The Five Islands and Mount Keira.
The staff were then asked to place their hand on the wall around a tree (‘our Novotel family tree’) to signify a team coming together to support each other and work as one.
