In 2019, the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) audited popular food precincts in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. 75% of food venues audited were not compliant with workplace laws. The most common issues related to:
- underpayment of minimum hourly rates
- not providing payslips in the prescribed form
- underpayment or non-payment of weekend penalty rates.
