Happy Holidays from Diageo Bar Academy

Dec 08, 2022

Happy Holidays from Diageo Bar Academy

Happy Holidays from Diageo Bar Academy! Being the bartender of the family means overseeing the drinks program come the 25th of December, a responsibility not to be taken lightly. Lucky for you we’ve got some simple serves that will pair perfectly with some of the classic favourites that might be served up on the big day. All of these recipes can also be easily scaled up to a carafe, just multiply the ingredients by 4-6 and serve in a carafe of jug at the centre of the table.

Make sure to try out all our combo suggestions, and if you come up with any of your own, please share and tag!

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without all the treats and goodies that go with it, and Ginger Bread People are often floating around the house at this time of year. These pair excellently with a Captain Morgan and ginger ale, the dryness and spice of this simple mix working to compliment the gingerbread.

Captain Morgan and Ginger Ale

  • 30ml Captain Morgan
  • 90ml Dry Ginger Ale
  • Lime Wedge Garnish
  • Highball glass
  • Cubed Ice

Method:

Build the ingredients into a cold highball glass and fill it with cubed ice. Add the Lime Garnish to serve.

Standard Drinks approx. 0.83

If you’re serving up prawns or a prawn cocktail this year, we suggest switching out Captain Morgan for Reeftip which is wonderful with fresh produce, especially seafood.

Reef & Dry

  • 30ml Reeftip Rum
  • 100ml Dry Ginger Ale
  • Lime Wedge Garnish
  • Highball glass
  • Cubed Ice

Method:

Grab a chilled highball glass and add the first 2 ingredients to the glass. Fill the glass with ice and finish the drink with the lime garnish.

Standard Drinks approx. 1

Moving onto the main event, and if there is a Roast Ham as the centrepiece of your Christmas table, we’d suggest the Johnnie Walker Blood Orange Highball. The hint of smoke from the Johnnie Walker and the carbonation will stand up well to Christmas lunch.

Johnnie Walker Blood Orange Highball

  • 30ml Johnnie Walker Black Label
  • 15ml Fresh Orange juice
  • 120ml Blood Orange Soda
  • Orange Wheel Garnish
  • Highball glass
  • Cubed Ice

Method:

Grab a chilled highball glass and add the ingredients to the glass. Fill the glass with ice and finish the drink with the orange garnish.

Standard Drinks approx. 0.95

For those in the family that are looking for a low-ABV alternative, we’ll be serving the Seedlip Garden and Tonic. Its floral and herbaceous blend is delicious with savoury meals such as steamed whole fish, grilled asparagus and tomato salad.

Seedlip Garden & Tonic

  • 30ml Seedlip Garden 108
  • 100ml Tonic Water
  • Mint Sprig Garnish
  • Highball glass
  • Cubed Ice

Method:

Grab a chilled highball glass and add the ingredients to the glass. Fill the glass with ice and finish the drink with the mint garnish.

Standard Drinks 0

The main event is over and dessert is being served, so lower ABV options will be welcome. If you’re serving Pavlova then it’s a perfect time to offer your guests the garden party and picnic classic, Pimm’s No.1 Cup.

Pimm’s No. 1 Cup

  • 30ml Pimm’s No. 1
  • 100ml Lemonade or Ginger Ale
  • 2 sliced strawberries, 2 orange slices, 2 cucumber slices and a mint sprig garnish
  • Highball glass
  • Cubed Ice

Method:

Grab a chilled highball glass and add the ingredients to the glass. Fill the glass ¾ full with ice, adding the garnishes, and finish the drink with the mint sprig.

Standard Drinks approx. 0.6
