Commemorate ANZAC Day at Howard Smith Wharves

Howard Smith Wharves will be honouring service men and women, past and present, at their inaugural ANZAC Day tradition on Thursday 25 April. Focused on bringing the community together, Howard Smith Wharves’ ANZAC Day event will feature Vietnam War photography, vintage wartime vehicles, and tours of the precinct’s Air Raid Shelters, with all donations on the day going to the Queensland RSL’s ANZAC Day appeal. 

 

Following the Brisbane CBD Dawn Service and ANZAC Day Parade, the Howard Smith Wharves ANZAC Day activation will run from 12-4pm on 25 April, with the Rivershed, Main and East Lawns featuring a display of Vietnam War photography and vintage wartime vehicles. Many of the wartime vehicles will have taken part in the Brisbane ANZAC Day Parade and will conclude their journey at Howard Smith Wharves. 

 

Brisbane Greeters will also be at Howard Smith Wharves to conduct tours of the Air Raid Shelters which were built for World War II, re-discovered during the development of the precinct and, given their rarity and importance, have been preserved as some of Brisbane’s most precious war history. The tours start at Citrus House at 12pm and will run every thirty minutes until the final tour departs at 4pm. 

 

Felons Brewing Co. and Fish and Chippery will open from 12pm, serving food and beverages for all. From 1pm, there will be live entertainment in the beer garden, along with 2-Up accompanied by fresh brews straight from the Felons Beer Truck on the Felons Lawn.  The Rivershed Café will also be open as usual from 6am and, with bacon and egg rolls on offer, will be the perfect place for a post-Dawn Service breakfast.    

 

Of honouring ANZAC Day at the precinct, Luke Fraser, CEO of Howard Smith Wharves, said, “It’s really important to us at Howard Smith Wharves that we pay respect to the service men and women, both past and present, who have served our country.”

 

“Howard Smith Wharves is a place where the Brisbane community comes together, and given ANZAC Day’s importance, we think establishing a tradition onsite that supports the Queensland RSL is a moving way to commemorate our service people,” he continued.
