JOB DESCRIPTION

For more than 20 years the basement bar below Sydney Central YHA has been creating memories for international backpackers and students. The iconic venue, previously known as the famous Scubar, has been re-branded to Schirrmo's and launched again in early September 2022.

Schirrmo’s Bar is an underground escape where paths cross and stories are shared over a cheeky drink or two.  With the heart of a traveller hangout, Schirrmo’s serves up a vibrant atmosphere and regular social events like drag bingo, comedy nights and live music.

We are looking for people who show pride and passion in their venue and their role and who love to have friendly banter with our guests and their team members.

The Role:
We are on the hunt for an energetic Bar Manager to take responsibility for the bar operation, currently open 4 nights per week with plans to increase. The hands-on role will involve continuing to build the bar atmosphere, supervising the established team and managing all stakeholder relationships. 

Key focuses will include:

  • Team Management: recruiting, rostering, training, and developing all bar team members.
  • Bar Operations: pricing, stock control, ordering, hands-on management and maintaining the highest possible standard of customer service.
  • Marketing and Promotion: organising and coordinating nightly activities and entertainment as well as working with external promoters and reps.
  • Compliance: operating in line with the approved liquor licence, managing security, WHS and RSA requirements.

Please note: You should have a minimum 2 years previous experience in the above or similar roles.


REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2 years’ experience in a management role in a late-night venue with a proven track record in bar and events operations.
  • Exceptional beverage knowledge, including wines, beers, cocktails etc.
  • Experience supervising other team members on shift and training new team members.
  • The ability to lead by example, believe in a strong team culture and set the scene for high performance.
  • Sound knowledge of SQUARE point of sale system.
  • Sound knowledge of NIGHTLIFE sound system
  • Understanding of ordering and stocktake procedures.
  • Previous experience in cost control and operating within an approved budget.
  • An innovative management approach: coming up with new ideas for improving the business, including driving and improving business sales.  
  • Availability to work a 7 day roster.
