Our owner has just signed leases for two new cafes around Melbourne, with plans to brand them as Short Straw. So we are expanding and there is so so much growth to come with many career options to suit your desired path.
ABOUT THE JOB:
As our currently manger is sadly leaving to pursue a career in management consulting, we need an experienced cafe manger who wants to be the face of Short Straw and help grow it to be the best it can be. The role will encompass 45 hours per week, spread over 4 days working open-close (6:45-4:30) in the cafe, with one additional day for admin. Ideally, you would be happy to work to work one weekend day as they are our busiest time and we need a confident person to handle rushes and organise staff.
Your managerial responsibilities will include; liasing with the owner, our roaster, media agency, and our team to communicate changes and needs, organising rosters using Deputy, training staff on-the-job and through team meetings to ensure everyone is creating a 10/10 customer experience, working with our head chef to create new menus each season and designing the menu and inputing each menu item into our POS systems (PossBoss, Hungry Hungry & Door Dash), seeking collaborations with other local businesses to attract new customers, hiring new staff according to business needs and conducting informal performance reviews, and planning team building activities to create a cohesive and inclusive team.
Your other general operational responsibilities will include; ensuring there is always enough stock through correct ordering, ensuring coffee is tasting banging through correct dialling in (our roaster helps considerably with this), ensuring all menu items are of good quality (taste & presentation) through effective quality control, ensuring that staff members including yourself is acting appropriately, and professionally - giving their 100% effort, ensuring that staff including yourself are completing weekly cleaning jobs and other monthly cleaning jobs when it is quiet, ensuring that staff are sent home in a timely manner when appropriate to do so to save wages, ensuring that the till is cashed up every day to the best of your ability, ensuring that every day the café is set up and packed down meeting all closing procedures, ensuring that every day the café is locked and ready for service the following day, and ensuring that meal breaks are carried out at appropriate times.
Your salary will be guided by the Level 4 or Level 5 (depending on experience and qualifications) rate under the Restaurant Industry Award. We are willing to pay above award rate for the right person who fits our vibe and our needs.
Perks are that we are only open 7-4pm, meaning no late nights!! The job is very well suited to early birds who possibly to enjoy their nights exploring to food and music culture of Melbourne or spending time with their family/friends.
Please note: You should have a minimum up to 6 months previous experience in the above or similar roles.
While qualifications and expereince is preferred, we understand that this is a crazy time and ALOT of cafes and resturants are struggling to find staff. So as long as you have the right attitude/vibe and willingess to learn, you will be perfect.
