JOB DESCRIPTION

Fishport Newport is a new waterfront venue based in Newport Marketplace.

About the job:

We are looking for experienced chef/grill cooks who are experienced in seafood and desserts to join the team in our dine-in licensed seafood front-line restaurant. In this challenging hands-on position, you will be joining our friendly team of staff who are committed to delivering quality food and customer service. 

The ideal candidates will have cooking experience working in a busy Restaurant/Café and enjoy working under the pressures of this environment. 

This is a full-time position with the ideal applicant having availability: Weds-Sun - 10am-7pm.

We will hire 2 x chefs who can work casually to cover all shifts as we are open 7 days a week.

Please note: You should have a minimum up to 6 months previous experience in the above or similar roles.


REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidates will possess the following skills/attributes:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience as a cook or chef in a similar fast-paced environment. Commercial kitchens experience an advantage.
  • Sound communication skills
  • Will be clean and presentable
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and quality standards to eliminate cross-contamination and hygiene regulations
  • Prep all cold and hot food items using prep worksheets
  • Follow proper knife safety procedures
  • Operate oven, grill, and prep equipment, ensuring proper time/temperature of all cooked food. 
  • Maintain clean, food-safe prep stations throughout the shift
  • Maintain clean and organized equipment
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of our changing salad menu + ingredients
  • Put received orders away.

Your Experience: 

  • Experience in seafood or fish and chips restaurant will be highly regarded
  • Food, Restaurant, and/or team experience
  • Knowledge of proper food safety handling
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with kitchen and food prep equipment
  • A team player with a positive can-do-attitude
  • Quick and adaptable learner
  • Collaborative communication skills
  • Accountable for upholding high standards.
