JOB DESCRIPTION

Cooks Wanted – cut the commute, save on petrol, reduce stress!

Burgers to Full Breakfast to Toasties to Lamb Shanks to Chicken Curry to Desserts to Platters and everything in between!

We are looking for two Cook/Chef’s to join us in our Café and Restaurant at Huapai Golf Club in Kumeu/Riverhead. We are a safe and reliable hospitality business in these challenging times and have 2 roles available offering flexible hours as part of a great team.

We are looking for people who are passionate about food and customer service. Inexperienced?  We will train you.  Experienced?  Great, you will fit in straight away!

You will be hard working, organised, creative and experienced in catering or have a passion to build on existing training or qualifications. You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be a team player. Able to work unsupervised and ensuring the kitchen meets all regulations including sanitary and food safety guidelines.

Main duties include cooking, preparing, and presenting high quality and great value dishes; creating menu items and recipes; preparing and stocking our fresh cabinet food for the day; kitchen maintenance and cleaning; maintaining and ordering stock and supplies; following food safety requirements; preparing Barista Coffee (training provided).

The role requires weekend work on a shared rostered basis, with flexibility around hours. One role will offer a minimum of 20 hours per week and one a minimum of 30 hours per week, or both will offer a minimum of 25 hours per week – we will work with the right candidates to find the right hours with shifts that will give you plenty of down time throughout the week. 

We are open 7 days serving our 980 strong membership and many visitors to the course and club. REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in a similar kitchen/catering environment or café/restaurant
  • Graduate of Culinary School or similar hospitality course would be ideal but not essential
  • Basic understanding of point-of-sale systems (we use Vend at Huapai Golf Club), training will be provided

OVERALL OBJECTIVE

  • To provide Club Members and Guests with excellent food and levels of service
  • You will be required to cook dishes that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery
  • You must be an excellent cook and be able to lead our team in preparing and delivering well-prepared meals
  • Preserve and enhance our reputation so we can expand our clientele.
  • Levels of cleanliness and hygiene are paramount.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the delivery and creation of menu’s, changing and updating seasonally
  • Great customer service in all interactions with customers and golf club members
  • Assist in preparation of cafe and counters before, during and at the end of service
  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • Prepare ingredients (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
  • Cook food in various utensils or grillers
  • Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
  • Keep a sanitised and orderly environment in the kitchen
  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
  • Monitor stock and notify Club Management when there are shortages
  • Service of hot and cold beverages, cakes, and other food items
  • Keeping the areas tidy and clean including table clearing, removing dirties and waste
  • Working within established guidelines and operating procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with all legislation, H&S and food hygiene.

THE PERSONAL SKILLS THAT ARE REQUIRED FOR THE JOB

  • Having a friendly and engaging personality, a good communicator, able to work under pressure and as part of a great team in the Cafe/Restaurant/Bar
  • Comfortable working with members of the public, able to initiate conversations and provide a sincere welcome and enjoy providing good service
  • Need to be willing to teach and learn, give and take instruction and work under your own initiative, supporting other team members and able to multitask
  • You should have a comprehensive understanding of the menu and have a keen interest in local food and drink
  • An effective, well organised, team player with a strong sense of discipline
  • Excellent standards of personal presentation smart appearance and articulate
  • Knowledge of till operation and cash handling
  • Food Hygiene training / qualifications preferable
