We have a unique opportunity for a bright, charismatic, and enthusiastic person to work at our cherished South-Melbourne café, W J Wills. This role will encompass a detailed training period working collaboratively with our team.

 Our ideal candidate has a passion for both food and coffee and places a very high priority on customer service.  We like to think of our café as a fun working environment; this sense of enjoyment and happiness is evident to each customer when they walk through the door. 

We open Monday to Friday, so unusually, this hospitality role requires no weekend work. 

We are looking for the perfect fit to seamlessly slide behind the handles of our coffee machine and create each of our fresh menu items from scratch every day while also adopting the happy, hard-working culture of our little café.

Your new role:  

• Greet and welcome customers with a warm and friendly demeanour.
• Take customer orders accurately and efficiently.
• Prepare and serve various beverages, including coffee, tea, and specialty drinks.
• Assist in food preparation, including assembling sandwiches, salads, and pastries.
• Ensure the cleanliness and organisation of the cafe's dining area, counter, and service stations.
• Handle cash and process payments using our point-of-sale system.
• Maintain strong knowledge of our menu items to answer customer questions and make recommendations.
• Always uphold food safety and hygiene standards.
• Collaborate with team members to create a positive and collaborative work environment.

Qualifications and skills

• Previous experience in a café environment or hospitality role is preferred.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Minimum 2 years experience as a barista 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Attention to detail and cleanliness.
• Food knowledge, including cooking, preparation and presentation skills.
• Hands-on experience with professional coffee machine and specialty coffee blend
