The Venue

Boom Boom Room in Brisbane is a Japanese restaurant that draws inspiration from the street food of Japan and incorporates the best local produce from Australia. The menu features authentic sashimi and yakitori plates, as well as bold dishes crafted by Executive Chef Jake Nicolson. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience in an underground space with a heritage-listed building ambiance, formerly the Queensland Government Saving Bank. The beverage menu complements the dishes with expertly mixed cocktails, wines selected by award-winning sommeliers, and a variety of Japanese beer, whiskey, and sake. The bar also features a 4-page sake menu and an impressive collection of 27 rare and limited-release Japanese whiskies. The restaurant provides options for gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan preferences, making it a versatile and memorable Japanese dining experience in Brisbane.

Opportunity

The Head Host is responsible for planning, organising, directing, and coordinating all venue reservations and the meeting and greeting of reservations, ensuring a great first impression for our customers. The Head Host has a direct reporting line to the Restaurant Manager and is part of the Venue Leadership Team

Key to your success will be your demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Facilitate the warm welcome of all guests to the restaurant, optimising bookings for restaurant and bar
  • Manage the arrival and service of noted VIPS to the venue including booking confirmations and service requests
  • Review guest booking notes, making sure guests' preferences and special requests are briefed to the service team
  • Provide accurate wait times and monitor waitlists
  • Manage reservations to ensure optimal service standards can be maintained and where possible walk-ins can be accommodated
  • Escort customers to assigned dining or bar areas
  • Provide menus and announce the Waiter/Waitress’s name
  • Greet customers upon their departure ensuring they had a positive dining experience
  • Coordinate with wait staff about available seating options
  • Maintain a clean reception area
  • Cater to guests who require extra attention (e.g. children, elderly)
  • Answer incoming calls and address customers’ queries
  • Manage and coordinate any emergency evacuations or arrival of emergency personnel if required
  • Assist wait staff as needed
  • Plan and prepare for service periods and functions according to the anticipated level of business
  • Oversee the service, ensuring that high standards are consistently met and assisting the team in a hands-on capacity during peak periods or as needed
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints regarding food/beverage quality and service
  • Coach, motivate, monitor, and manage other Hosts performance
  • Communicate business goals to employees, providing additional training if required
  • Any other duties within your capability as directed by the Restaurant Manager

Please note: You should have a minimum up to 2 years previous experience in the above or similar roles.


REQUIREMENTS

Successful candidates will have at least 2 years of experience in a similar role and environment, coupled with the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience with hosting and restaurant floor operations – managing bookings and waitlists
  • Exceptional customer service and relationship-building skills
  • Immaculate presentation and grooming
  • Confident and charismatic manner
  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities
  • Excellent verbal communication
  • Experience with e-booking platforms (Seven Rooms, Ivvy)
  • Proven work experience as a Waiter/Waitress
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team
