Senior Kitchen Hand

JOB DESCRIPTION

Gran Torino, part of the Margaret family of restaurants, is looking for a full-time Senior Kitchen Hand to lead our kitchen support team in Double Bay.

Located inside Gaden House, a four-storey venue featuring a bar on the lower level, two levels of restaurant service, and one level dedicated to events, Gran Torino operates with the scale and structure of a large luxury hotel. As such, we’re looking for a skilled, hands-on professional to take charge of our back-of-house cleaning operations and support a high-performing kitchen team.

This is a key leadership role within a large, professional kitchen—ideal for someone with previous experience in hotels, large restaurants, or clubs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the kitchen hand team across multiple levels of the building
  • Overseeing the cleaning of all cutlery, crockery, and kitchen equipment
  • Distributing cleaned items efficiently across all service areas from our central Level 1 dishwashing area
  • Managing the use and maintenance of commercial dishwashing machines—including checking chemical levels and ensuring machines are used correctly
  • Monitoring and maintaining stock levels of cleaning materials and chemicals
  • Supporting the kitchen team during busy service periods and ensuring a clean, safe, and organised back-of-house environment

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, or club kitchen
  • Proven ability to manage a team and take ownership of operations
  • Reliable, hardworking, and physically capable of handling a hands-on role
  • Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a large team

The Role:

  • Full-time position, paid under the Restaurant Industry Award, Grade 3 or 4 (depending on experience)
  • Includes base hourly rate plus penalty rates for weekends, public holidays, and overtime
  • Entitlements include 4 weeks of annual leave and paid sick leave
