WINTER WARMING FOOD & WINE PAIRINGS FROM TAYLORS WINES

WINTER WARMING FOOD & WINE PAIRINGS FROM TAYLORS WINES

The simple joy of spending time with loved ones over a delicious meal and an excellent drop is not something to be taken for granted. While many of us put a lot of thought into the perfect menu to tuck into, less thought often goes into how the wine should be paired and served. For many, red wine is synonymous with winter. As the cooler weather rolls in we begin to reach for more comforting, rich and warming dishes and we can recommend the perfect red wine match to suit.

TIPS FOR PAIRING FOOD & WINE

What is better than enjoying food or wine? Enjoying them together when you get the mix just right. When you match food and wine in the right way, it can enhance the flavour not only of the wine but of the food as well. To find the perfect match, remember these two simple tips: white wine matches with light foods such as white meat, salads and fish. Red wine goes well with red meat or a rich casserole. Sparkling wine however, can go with just about anything as it acts as a palate cleanser.  If you want to delve deeper, you can look at the tasting notes to find out what makes up a wine and pair that to the flavours in the food. For example, if you have an acidic wine it will go well with fatty or sweet foods. A wine high in tannins will also go well with sweet food.

If in doubt, remember one very important rule: this is not a contest between food and wine. One should not overpower the other, so if you are going for a light salad, don’t pair it with a bold red. And if you are going for a heavy, spiced steak don’t pair it with a sauvignon blanc. That is because one flavour will be the clear winner while you don’t taste much of the other one at all - and what is the sense in that? So the next time you are choosing a dish that is heavy or full of flavour, do the same with your wine. And same again for food and wines that have a more delicate taste.

Jaraman Cabernet Sauvignon, is wine with a difference. A unique blend of two classic regions, Clare Valley and Coonawarra. Here the power and tannic structure of Coonawarra fruit is mellowed by the aromatic lift and purity of Clare Valley partnership. It’s the best of both worlds. Fermented and matured in French oak barrels, it’s got a touch of warm spice.

The Taylors family love to serve a traditional Sunday roast lamb shoulder with this delicious drop or pair with slowly braised lamb ragu.

Jaraman Shiraz, similarly, is a unique wine blending two classic regions, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley. Here we bring together the rich chocolate of McLaren with the ripe berries and spice of Clare Valley. Fermented and matured in water-bent American Oak barrels for a smoother finish. Shiraz's best friend is beef, in all its cuts. Shiraz has a spicy depth of flavour that is perfect for steak, roasts and beef hot pots. There’s nothing quite like a hearty beef steak with a glass of Shiraz? Or for the ultimate indulgence pair this wine with a decadent poached pears with chocolate ganache.
