How to: Dress for Success
Mar 21, 2023
Congratulations! You’ve just landed an interview for your dream job! I’m sure you’ve already started preparing with practice questions etc, but if you’ve reached the point of freaking out on what to wear, do not fear! Whether you’re 3 weeks out or your interview’s tomorrow, we’ve got some tips to help you look the part. It’s really important to think about how you’ll present yourself to your potential employer. First impressions matter, and the way you dress can say a lot about you. Here’s our top tips:
1. Dress appropriately for company culture
When it comes to job interviews, it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed, just think ✨dress to impress✨. Stick with conservative clothing choices like a tailored suit, dress pants or long skirt, and a dress shirt or blouse. Avoid flashy or revealing clothing, as it can be distracting and give the wrong impression.
2. Choose neutral colours
When it comes to colours, it’s best to stick with neutrals like black, navy, grey, and beige. These colours are classic and professional, and they won’t distract from your interview. Avoid bright colours or busy patterns, as they can be distracting and give off an unprofessional vibe.
3. Make sure it’s comfy
It’s likely your fancier dress clothes aren’t worn too often or too recently, make sure to try on your fit before the day so you can make sure it all still fits! Also make sure that;s comfy! The last thing you need is being distracted by the scratchy label or getting blisters from those not-so-worn in shoes.
4. Pay attention to details
The minor details can really make a difference! Make sure your shirt is cleaned and ironed and your hair looks neat. Also don’t overdo it on the aftershave or deodorant. Interviewers can’t always smell fear, but they can smell if you’ve sprayed yourself enough to become 90% aftershave, 10% you.
5. Keep accessories to a minimum
Accessories can add personality to an outfit, but it’s important to keep them to a minimum for a job interview. Stick with simple jewellery and avoid anything too flashy, we don’t want it distracting from your amazing interview answers! Keep your makeup natural and subtle, and avoid any hairstyles that are too outlandish.
I know you must be very nervous but by following these tips you’ll be able to present yourself in the best possible light and make a great first impression, wishing you the best of luck! You’ll smash it💥.
