Ekka is HERE!
Jul 29, 2017
Around this time of the year, many Brisbanites notice the construction of rides at the RNA showgrounds and remember with delight that a public holiday is on the way!
The Brisbane show, or Ekka, is the ultimate family event! It offers both education and immense levels of fun to any and all Brisbane kids. However, the Ekka is much more than a paradise for kids! The Ekka has a long history, and since 1876, it has become Australia’s largest and longest running public event. It is a MUST for any food lovers, thrill seekers, and those personally or professionally interested in agriculture, permaculture and/or horticulture.
Behind the dagwood dogs, showbags and bright lights of sideshow alley, the Ekka’s history is deeply rooted in supporting farmers and showcasing the latest and greatest of their industry. The show certainly has come a long way since ploughing, sowing and harvesting artefacts. While elements of the show have remained unchanged – such as the competitions, it’s easy to forget the underlying traditions.
Ekka is an opportunity to pay homage to the hard work and innovation of our farmers, which enables us to live such incredible lifestyles here in Queensland. It’s a great chance to learn about the role of agriculture in our society and our lives.
The Ekka showcases the livelihood of Brisbane farmers, with 21,000 competition entries, 10000 animals and a mind boggling array of award winning foods, wines and entertainment options. Agriculture Minister Leanne Donaldson says the Ekka is a perfect opportunity for Brisbane residents to show their appreciation to the farmers who put food on their tables. With only a few days to wait now, jump on the Ekka website and find the shows and exhibits you want to see!
