Sydney's Newest Bar & Restaurant

May 21, 2018

Sydney's Newest Bar & Restaurant

Words by Editor Hannah Sparks

Behind the new establishment is Rockpool Dining Group and if you haven’t already guessed it, global tequila brand Patrón. With Rockpool’s knowledge of the food and drink scene here in Australia, having opened some of our most impressive venues like Spice Temple and the Sake Restaurant & Bar chain, the two have combined to create a fun and fine dining experience that draws on all the things we love about Mexico.

First off, is the unique cocktail list of classic Mexican cocktails, plus a few twists, that showcase the entire Patrón range. There are three Margaritas to choose from: the Classic, made with Patrón Silver, Roca or Platinum Tequila depending on your preference; the Chipotle Margarita (yum) with real chipotle and paprika spice; and the Millionaire Margarita, which is made at your table for $100 and features seriously premium ingredients such as the Patrón Gran Burdeos and Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac, shaken and served with a gold leaf. I mean, if you have the cash to splash, it wouldn’t be a drink you’d forget anytime soon.

There are others like the Strawberry Buck, The Walking Dead and Black Magic Woman. I’ll let your imagination have some fun with those. As well as wines from across the world, beers, ciders, other spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.

A final word on the drinks menu – and tequila lovers will, well, love this – Bar Patrón will also be home to several exclusive and special edition Patrón tequilas including the rare Patrón en Lalique Serie 1 and 2 crystal bottles, which cost $10,000; the Roca Patrón and Gran Patrón luxury collections; plus five exclusive Patrón tequilas from the barrel. Does it get any better for you?

Okay, time for food. If there’s room. But you should make room, because the menu here has been designed by Rockpool’s very own Culinary Director Neil Perry and it’s basically all our Mexican favourites on the one list. Think empanadas packed with flavour; cheese stuffed quesadillas; and overflowing, colourful tacos. Gosh, I’m hungry just thinking about it.

As for the interior, your eyes will be brightened by designs that capture elegant Mexican haciendas, Carribean and Creole bungalows and sub-tropical Queenslander timber homes. A simple white palette is complemented with lush greenery and soft Italian leather upholstery in warm orange and red tones. Retro bronze and glass light fittings, and some antique furnishings add to the residential and colonial vibe.

Take a seat at the larger intimate tables or the huge Carrare marble bar that provides stunning views of Circular Quay and the Harbour Bridge.
