Tell us a bit about yourself – how did you get into hospitality?
My name is Lily, I’m 18 years old and am living in Sydney. I started working in hospitality when I was 14 years old at KFC. I thoroughly enjoyed this job as it was fast-paced, challenging, had a great team environment and taught me a lot about franchised businesses (store targets, sales, recruitment processes etc). I was promoted to customer service leader 1 year after joining the team and I ended up staying there for 4 years because I genuinely loved the job.
How did you find yourself in this role?
Being a team leader at Calipress Mosman is an extremely rewarding, fun, yet challenging role. Every day I wake up and love coming to work because we have an excellent team and the job is enjoyable. I moved down to Sydney in late February this year (2021) and was hired as a casual juice bar team member. I was super keen to work and started getting more and more shifts as time went on. As I have a leader/dedicated person, I was motivated to become a team leader from the beginning. Since being promoted, I have loved the extra responsibility that comes with being a team leader and I love my job even more.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Although I am quite undecided on what I want to be or where I want to go in the next 5 years, I want to be truly happy with whatever choices I do make. I know now, that with this job, every day is entertaining and different. In 5 years I want to wake up and be excited to go to work every day, I want to have a positive impact on people that interact with me and I want to be having fun.
What do you do when you’re not working, any hobbies?
When I’m not at work, I love being in nature. I’m quite a spiritual person and I love to feel grounded and at peace when I’m not thinking and moving a million miles an hour at work. I love to read books by the beach, be with my friends or doing something creative like embroidery.
