Why You Need To Start Looking For A Summer Job Right Now

Nov 29, 2022

Why You Need To Start Looking For A Summer Job Right Now

The summer holidays are fast approaching, you’re almost there ๐Ÿ˜Ž! Six weeks of summer sun, no school work, Christmas feasts, new years parties and lots of time to earn some extra moolah๐Ÿ’ธ. The thing is, after a long year at school, it’s likely that writing resumes and applying for jobs is the last thing on your mind, but you don’t wanna be stuck relying on your grandparent's Christmas cash all summer, which means now is the perfect time to land a job and earn your own money to buy yourself those new kicks and festival tickets!

The trick to landing yourself a summer job early is to apply early! The last thing you want is to be desperately handing your resume to every waitress, barista and cashier who ‘promises’ to pass it on to their boss, and end up spending your summer bored and broke ๐Ÿ˜ข. Plus if there’s one thing for certain, there’s no such thing as being too keen ๐Ÿค‘.

1. Beat the rush
With every single student in your area handing in their resume to the same cafes, bars and shops that you are, it’s going to be very hard to stand out from the crowd. Plus, hiring people takes time, especially in the busy Christmas period, employers don’t want to be handling interviews and onboarding in the busiest time of the year๐ŸŽ„, which is why if you get ahead of the crowd, you’ll have a much better shot at landing the job!
So, to get ahead in the game, you need to make sure your profile is up to date and ready to go! Think of this as a mini resume, and then start hitting that pink “apply now” button before every man and his dog is also looking to get a chrissy casual gig.

2. Don’t fall into the “I’ll apply later” trap
After a long hard year at school, and presumingly having just finished lots of end of year exams, it's understandable that you’re probably exhausted. Looking and applying for jobs can seem quite daunting, especially when all you wanna do is go to the beach in the new sunny weather or binge the newest Netflix series -  but it’s actually much easier than you would think! If you just spend 10 mins making your profile elite and clicking apply on a few venues you recognise, you’ll be finished in no time! Much better than falling into the “I’ll do it later” trap and ending up in the ‘rush’ we just talked about ๐Ÿ˜ณ.

3. Avoid the weird, boring stage
As we said before, the process before you actually start a new job takes a bit of time, so if you wait till you start holidays to apply for jobs, you’ll be stuck in an odd limbo moment with nothing to do 7 days a week. You’ll have to spend that time applying and attending interviews, precisely not what you wanna spend your hols doing. Plus you won’t be earning any cash to spend๐Ÿซฐ!

So what are you waiting for? Jump on the job hunt and get prepared for the best summer ever! By applying early, you give yourself more opportunities to find open positions - see below for our open jobs near you!
